PutPlace benefits from The Tuesday Push

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Damien hits another home run for Startups in Ireland with his Tuesday Push idea. What I love about it was the speed of execution. Met Damien last week at the Darklight Festival, he mentioned the idea (which I whole heartedly endorsed), couple of emails over the weekend to confirm with other key figures that it was a runner. tThe very next Tuesday and we are up and running.

Damien is a exemplar of the “lets not overthink this one” model of working.

PutPlace has experienced a dramatic spike in traffic as a result and the link love is sure to stand us in good stead in the future. So in no particular order, a big shout out to,

If I have missed anyone (these are the sites that Google Alerts reported for PutPlace) please drop me a line or post a comment and I’ll add you to the list.

OpenCoffee in The Digital Hub

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Had a great first Open Coffee in the Digital Depot, Mike Butcher from Techcrunch UK was over and did a quick video of some of the hub startup founders. PutPlace provided the cakes and pastries and despite the weather we had a pretty good turnout.

Will definitely host again.

Hope to see you all at CrunchLudd tonight in 4 Dame Lane.

Help Wanted - PutPlace Scalability testers

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

We are looking for a bunch of willing participants in a PutPlace scalability test. You will need to install the PutPlace client and login at the the appropriate time  and upload a biggish chunk of data. The idea is that we slowly build up a posse of users over a day or so and see how our (small) test grid responds. This will indicate the performance limitations on the larger PutPlace grid.

Drop me a comment to this post or email me Joe dot Drumgoole at PutPlace dot com.

PutPlace - Looking for Mac Developer

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Candidate Requirements:

PutPlace is looking for a developer to build a Mac version of its existing Windows client software. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience of building whole applications on Panther, Tiger and Leopard. Ideally with Objective-C using the Cocoa framework. Knowledge of Python, Django, SQLite and PostGres will get you bonus points.

We are not looking for ten years experience but we are looking for enthusiasm. The candidate must be smart and be able to get things done (http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/GuerrillaInterviewing3.html).

Working Location:

PutPlace is based in Dublin, but we realise that the world’s Mac programmers don’t live in Ireland. So while we are happy to pay for you to relocate to Dublin, we are also happy for you to work from your current location. However that location must be within two timezones of Dublin.

Our working model is based on the scrum development model and everything is hosted, so working remotely is not as difficult as it might sound.

Package:

We pay market rates and above for the right people. We offer stock options and a health plan. We also give you the ability to build someting from scratch that will make real world users happy.

About PutPlace:

PutPlace is an online service that helps home users manage long term storage of their digital content. We are all accumulating digital stuff at a tremendous rate. Scientific American reckons we will have over a terabyte of data stored in our homes by 2010. That’s ten times what is stored on an average PC today. What’s more, we will create over a terabyte of data every year after that.

PutPlace provides you with an online backup service that backups up all your digital content, across all the devices in the home and recognises the fact that these devices are related to each other.

PutPlace then recreates the relationships between the content in your home, the stuff in your backup and anything you have shared or published on the web. If you ever want to find a file again, where it came from and where it went to is as important as what’s inside it. Every digital copy came from somewhere originally and PutPlace finds that original and links all the copies back to it ,so that you can track every piece of content you own over its complete digital lifetime.

PutPlace is Digital Memory for your Digital Lifetime.

How many blogs?

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Paul Walsh asked me to elaborate (on twitter) on why I only read one of his blogs (Segala.com) and what he should do with his BIMA posts?

Well I keep two blogs going, PutPlace and this one. PutPlace I could do more on, but thats pretty much all about PutPlace and designed for users of PutPlace, Partners and has a pretty clear Agenda, the promotion of PutPlace as a business. Copacetic is mine and existed before PutPlace and will live on after it. If I was Paul I would want my huge blogging rep attached to a site associated with Paul Walsh rather than Segala. Someday Segala will be gone and he will have to do a pile of work to get a new brand up and  running.

For now I will continue to get my Walshie juice from Segala ;-) As for BIMA never read it, probably never will.

More Shameless self promotion (no sunglasses required)

Here is an interview (its a podcast) I did before the TV4B gig. A little more disjointed and a few clangers but at least you don’t get blinded by my dazzling forehead. Scroll forward to minute 00:28:55 to get to the start of the PutPlace bit.
