Tuesday Push : Crewger, a film site for the industry

Crewger is little different to our usual Tuesday Push application vendors.A vertically focussed site that provides a spam free, rubbish free, vampire bite free place for the Irish film community to meet and organise themselves.

The writing style is slick and conversational and I find myself being drawn into there world. Go for a browse and find out about film making in Ireland.

Tuesday Push : Toddle

Better late than never with Toddle, a super simple way to create email newsletters. From its one line registration process to hyperajaxified interface the whole interface smacks of Alan O’Rourke’s wonderful attention to detail.

Alan’s company SpoiltChild.com is one of the great unsung heroes of the Web 2.0 sector. His company makes beautiful simple website and beautiful simple web applications like Toddle.

Profitable within months of launch Toddle continues to be an example to rest of us pre-revenue wannabes.

Pix.ie : One To Watch

Work has delayed my Tuesday Push post so big apologies Marcus. Marcus MacInnes is one of the true vanguards of Web 2.0 and is beating the Americans at their own game with a most excellent photo sharing site, pix.ie.

From its very impressive multi-file uploader that is baked into the browser interface, to the super slick and stylish user interface, pix.ie just smacks of professionalism all over.

A top notch place to keep your photographs,  Rock on Marcus.

Numb/Encore

Thank you, thank you, thank you, you’re far too kind

Now can I get an encore, do you want more
Cookin raw with the Brooklyn boy
So for one last time I need y’all to roar

Now what the hell are you waitin for
After me, there shall be no more
So for one last time, nigga make some noise

Get em Jay

Who you know fresher than Hov’? Riddle me that
The rest of y’all know where I’m lyrically at
Can’t none of y’all mirror me back
Yeah hearin me rap is like hearin G. Rap in his prime
I’m, young H.O., rap’s Grateful Dead
Back to take over the globe, now break bread
I’m in, Boeing jets, Global Express
Out the country but the blueberry still connect
On the low but the yacht got a triple deck
But when you Young, what the fuck you expect? Yep, yep
Grand openin, grand closin
God your man Hov’ cracked the can open again
Who you gon’ find doper than him with no pen
just draw off inspiration
Soon you gon’ see you can’t replace him
with cheap imitations for DESE GENERATIONS

Now can I get an encore, do you want more
Cookin raw with the Brooklyn boy
So for one last time I need y’all to roar

Now what the hell are you waitin for
After me, there shall be no more
So for one last time, nigga make some noise

What the hell are you waiting for

[sighs] Look what you made me do, look what I made for you
Knew if I paid my dues, how will they pay you
When you first come in the game, they try to play you
Then you drop a couple of hits, look how they wave to you
From Marcy to Madison Square
To the only thing that matters in just a matter of years (yea)
As fate would have it, Jay’s status appears
to be at an all-time high, perfect time to say goodbye
When I come back like Jordan, wearin the 4-5
It ain’t to play games witchu
It’s to aim at you, probably maim you
If I owe you I’m blowin you to smithereeens
Cocksucker take one for your team
And I need you to remember one thing (one thing)
I came, I saw, I conquered
From record sales, to sold out concerts
So muh’fucker if you want this encore
I need you to scream, ’til your lungs get sore

I’m tired of being what you want me to be
Feeling so faithless lost under the surface
Don’t know what you’re expecting of me
Put under the pressure of walking in your shoes
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
Every step that I take is another mistake to you
(Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow)
And every second I waste is more than I can take

I’ve become so numb I can’t feel you there
I’ve become so tired so much more aware
I’m becoming this all I want to do
Is be more like me and be less like you

I’ve become so numb
Can I get an encore, do you want more (more…)
I’ve become so numb
So for one last time I need y’all to roar
One last time I need y’all to roar

The Tuesday Push – 1Time Time Tracking

If you need to track timesheets (and plenty of us do for grants, EI administration, InterTrade Ireland projects etc. etc.) then you could do a lot worse than run out and buy a cracking web based time tracking tool from 1time.

It also provides a perfect tool for sole traders or consultants who need to keep track of their own time or client time. For a single person the software is free for one project. After than prices rise fairly modestly. Trust me, you won’t sweat the costs on this one.

I’ve used it and it does what it says on the tin, helps you keep track of your time. It has good email reminders for people like me who are forever forgetting to fill in their EI paperwork and it can track non work costs if you are especially conscientious about that sort of thing.

So go on, sign up and track your time, the founder Derek Organ is very responsive to end users so make sure to send him in you feedback to support (at) 1time.ie. He blogs about the product at http://1timetracking.com/blog/.

PutPlace benefits from The Tuesday Push

Damien hits another home run for Startups in Ireland with his Tuesday Push idea. What I love about it was the speed of execution. Met Damien last week at the Darklight Festival, he mentioned the idea (which I whole heartedly endorsed), couple of emails over the weekend to confirm with other key figures that it was a runner. tThe very next Tuesday and we are up and running.

Damien is a exemplar of the “lets not overthink this one” model of working.

PutPlace has experienced a dramatic spike in traffic as a result and the link love is sure to stand us in good stead in the future. So in no particular order, a big shout out to,

If I have missed anyone (these are the sites that Google Alerts reported for PutPlace) please drop me a line or post a comment and I’ll add you to the list.

Video Blogging – The Dogs Don't Like it

There is an apocryphal marketing story about a marketing company that launches a new dog food. They have huge success initially and generate lots of buzz via TV advertising and print media. Things go really well but after a few months sales start to drop off dramatically. Eventually they send a field marketing guy out to find out what’s going on. He comes back with the answer after a few weeks,

The Dogs don’t like the dog food

That for me is the challenge of video blogging. The transaction costs are just too high for all but the most committed bloggers, worse the transaction costs for all but the most committed viewers are also sky high.

The “creating : reading” compression ratio implicit in a written blog  (It may take me 10 minutes to write a blog post but you can skim it in  about 10mseconds) doesn’t exists in video blogging. It takes nearly as long to watch as it took to shoot.

The upshot of all this is that only heavily branded a-list blogs (such as Loren Feldman’s 1938 media)  are likely to make much headway.

Seesmic, not so much.

Feed has been screwed since upgrade

My WordPress upgrade 2.5.1 changed the default feed URL (nice move guys, great way to screw your user base), so anybody subscribed to my feed for the last month and a half won’t have seen a thing.

Fixed now so hopefully you should get a big splurge of stuff. All comments gratefully accepted.
